Data backup less time-consuming!
1. No installation required - Independent of the operating system
DeviceImage is booted and started autonomously from a bootable Linux-CD. As a result, it can easily and quickly restore the previously created backup archive without the need for installation, even though the entire system may not run again following a hard disk crash or virus attack. DeviceImage creates a byte-for-byte exact copy of the hard disk or the partition in a compressed form. Here, the operating system installed on the data carrier (for which the backup has to be taken) does not play any role. Not only applications, configuration files, personal settings and updates are saved, but a backup of the complete, consistent structure of the entire hard disk or parts thereof is taken.
2. No dependency on the storage media used
The backup can be taken on any media. Thus, you can choose from different internal and external drives. Naturally, you can also access different storage media in your network (DeviceImage-Net).
3. Simple and intuitive operation
DeviceImage is operated via the economical character-based interface - ‘newt-Interface’ with clearly defined functional keys. The menu structure is designed in such a way that an intuitive operation is possible. The software puts forth optimum recommendations and thus, assists the user in the process of selecting the settings.
4. Data security
DeviceImage offers several interlocking concepts for maintaining consistency, integrity and securing the data backup against unauthorised access. During the backup process, it is constantly checked if the data to be saved has been read and written without any errors. In the next step, an MD5 checksum can be formed of the backup taken, if required; this guarantees data integrity. The MD5 checksum can be checked before every restoration, in order to ensure that all the data remains unchanged. Every data backup can be protected with a password. The additional concept of complete encoding of the saved data and adding a digital signature to the backup round off the security concept. Besides, the status of the hard disk can be checked while taking the data backup. With this, DeviceImage can detect even the smallest changes in the functionality of the hard disk and allows to replace it with a new one on time.
5. Less system resources:
A special feature of DeviceImage is that it uses very little system resources although it offers a very convenient operation. Even the backup of very large hard disks and partitions takes place completely in the main memory. However, the software requires very little storage capacity; thus, a 64 MB RAM, x86 compatible computer with a bootable CD or DVD drive is completely sufficient. Hence, DeviceImage can also be used on older computers.
