The main idea of DeviceImage is Flexibility, Simplicity and Independence from a particular OS. Therefore the DeviceImage solution is very adjustable for various Virtual environments.
Since version 05.03 DeviceImage has been adjusted to run espessially in VMware virtual environments. DeviceImage runs in the virtual machine as independent virtual application and thereby it is of no importance under what operating system (MS Windows, Linux, Mac OS or Unix).
If operating system or part of it should be changed (through update, upgrade or moving to another one) it does not inevitably means the change of the backup software. Because of its independece, DeviceImage can be used farther without any restriction.
Another benefit of DeviceImage software is the following: the generation of the backup-image can be done during the normal OS operation. It means that there is no need to stop operating system in order to make an image-backup of whole system drive or of its partition. Since version 05.03 it is possible for example for such OS as MS Windows or other operating systems.
The deeper meaning of virtualisation of applications is to avoid conflicts between particular application and operating system and/or another applications. Isolation of the application from its standard OS-environment should help to solve different problems in administartion and especially in some security issues.
Virtual-DeviceImage is a non invasive solution. It means, that during the installation of DeviceImage the system relevant resources will not be changed. Registry, dll-libraries and other resources remain untouched.
Security is very important issue for DeviceImage. It is impossible for any virus or trojan-attacker to get through the virtual layer. Therefore it is impossible to manipulate the operational functionality of DeviceImage.
Through virtualisation it is possible to use DeviceImage in some other contexts. For example, it is very suitable for usage in embedded systems. Embedded systems are highly specifical and very tightly hardware-adjusted operating systems. All resources of such systems are very limited. DeviceImage is just predestinated for usage in such embedded environments, because of little need for additional memory or CPU resources.
DeviceImage is very simple to install and to use. All installable components are preconfigured and well adjusted for running in the virtuall environment.
The definition of full automatic backup can be done in only two steps. DeviceImage "thinks" for the user and offers the most probably needed selections which are optimal for the current situation.
